Thicker foods are proven to help reduce the symptoms of reflux. Reflux occurs when the contents of the stomach move back into the oesophagus after feeding. Regurgitation (or posseting) means the stomach contents come up into your baby’s mouth.
Aptamil Anti-Reflux Milk Powder is specially formulated with carob bean gum so that the milk is thicker in consistency. It is clinically proven to be thicker on preparation than other anti-reflux formulas, and it also stays thicker in your baby’s stomach. If the milk remains thick when it reaches your baby's stomach, this makes it easier for the baby to keep the feed down.
Reflux and regurgitation will normally resolve by around 12 months as your baby's digestive system becomes more mature. However, the following tips can help to reduce the symptoms of reflux:
- Feed smaller amounts more frequently.
- Change to a more upright feeding position.
- Windduring the feed rather than at the end of the feed.
- Check that the teat size being used is suitable for your baby's feeding needs.
