Co-Codamol 8mg/500mg Tablets
Co-Codamol 8mg/500mg Tablets are for the short term treatment of acute moderate pain when other pain killers have not worked. They can be used to relieve pain caused by headache, migraine, toothache, period pain, muscular pains and backache that is not relieved by aspirin, ibuprofen or paracetamol alone.
You should only take this product for a maximum of three days at a time. If you need to take it for longer than three days you should see your pharmacist or doctor for advice.
Directions
- Adults: 2 tablets every 4 to 6 hours, as needed. Do not take more than 8 tablets in 24 hours
- Children 16 to 18 years: 1 to 2 tablets every 6 hours, as needed. Do not take more than 8 tablets in 24 hours
- Children aged 12 to 15 years: 1 tablet every 6 hours, as needed. Do not give your child more than 4 tablets in 24 hours.
Ingredients
- Active Ingredients: Codeine Phosphate Hemihydrate 8mg and Paracetamol 500mg.
- Other Ingredients: Colloidal anhydrous silica, maize starch, pregelatinised maize starch, stearic acid.
Cautions
- Do not drink alcohol whilst taking Co-Codamol tablets.
- Do not take any other paracetamol containing products.
- Do not take less than 4 hours after taking other painkillers.
- If you need to take this medicine for more than 3 days continuously you should see your doctor or pharmacist.
- Contains codeine which can cause addiction if you take it continuously for more than 3 days.
- If you take this medicine for headaches for more than 3 days it can make them worse.
- Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicine, even those not prescribed, for example herbal remedies and health supplements, as they may interact with this medicine.
- These tablets may make you feel drowsy, affect your vision and affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. Do not drive or operate machinery if the tablets have this effect on you.
- Immediate medical advice should be sought in the event of an overdose even if you feel well.
Do not take Co-Codamol tablets if you:
- Have ever been told you are allergic to paracetamol, codeine or other opioid pain killers or to any of the other ingredients.
- Have severe asthma or breathing problems.
- Have liver disease.
- Have recently suffered from a head injury or you have been told you have raised pressure on the brain.
- Have problems with your metabolism or stomach problems.
- Suffer from alcoholism.
- Are under 12 years of age.
- Are pregnant.
Take special care with this medicine and talk to your pharmacist or doctor if you:
- Suffer from kidney or liver problems (including alcoholic liver disease).
- Suffer from asthma or breathing problems (see above).
- Have low blood pressure, are in shock or very run down.
- Have an underactive thyroid gland (hypothyroidism) or adrenal glands.
- Have suffered from convulsions or have a seizure disorder (fits).
- Have hormone imbalance.
- Have difficulty in passing urine.
- Are addicted to drugs or have been in the past.
- Have difficulty in moving around.
- Are a man with prostate problems.
